On Tuesday and Wednesday this week, all the interns visited the University of Maryland campus, took a tour around the agriculture facilities to learn more about their programs. On Tuesday, our first stop was the leadership training (Maryland LEAD Program). Lunch at the food court. The first tour was a research greenhouse, an aquaponics greenhouse, and a lab. The last tour for the day was a fermentation lab. Then checked in at the hotel. Then, we had a group dinner with all the interns to end the night. On Wednesday, our first stop was the leadership training. The first tour was the bioenergy & bioprocessing tech lab. Then all the Interns went to different tables, met some more UMD faculty & staff, and chatted with them at the mixer networking lunch. The second tour was the water quality outreach & wellness lab, campus learning garden & campus food security. The last tour was the campus farm. That concluded our two-day visit at the UMD campus. The campus farm inspired me the most because I like working and learning about all the different animals. I have worked on a horse farm for 10 years as my second weekend job.

When I think about leadership, I think of a leader leading a group of people successfully to achieve a goal while working as a team, and communicating with each other to achieve those goals. The two leadership workshops with Antino Silas and Myles Alexander informed my ideas about leadership because they both told me more about how leadership is in the working world and about networking with some fun and informal activities to do with all the interns together. My leadership style is democratic/participative because I am good at working as a team and listening to other inputs in the group, so no one feels left out. Servant leadership because I am good at emphasizing the needs of other team members to help them grow and succeed as better people for the job or organization. During the internship, I can practice envisioning the future to drive others to succeed towards that goal to help better the job or organization.
