Learning about and Setting up for our Aquaponics 4H Summer Activity Project Club.
One of the most exciting projects my office is working on this summer is the Aquaponics 4-H Summer Activity Project Club. This six-week-long program invites youth to engage in hands-on learning through the engineering design process, building their own aquaponics tanks at home. Each participant has the freedom to design their system and choose whether to focus more on the aquatic (fish) component or the plant-growing side. I’m incredibly excited to continue supporting this program and to see the creativity and innovation the kids bring to their projects.
Book Donations From a Local School!
One of our local elementary schools has generously donated books they no longer need or use. I’ve been helping by picking up the donations, sorting through them, and organizing them into categories.
Our plan is to share these books with the community in a variety of ways: we'll stock our Little Free Library, hand them out as prizes at events, and give them away during the County Fair. It’s a simple but meaningful way to promote reading in our low income area and make sure these books find new homes where they’ll be appreciated. I’m excited to keep working on this project and see the smiles it brings to kids and families.
Throughout my internship, I’ve been actively involved in teaching and co-teaching lessons at least twice a week. These have included topics like robotics, aquaponics, and plant science. Whether I'm teaching elementary, middle, or high school students—or even working with adults—I’ve learned that leading a classroom can be both challenging and deeply rewarding. Teaching, in my view, is one of the most powerful forms of communication. Not only do you get to witness students begin to enjoy and engage with a subject, but you also deepen your own understanding. As the saying goes, you don’t truly know something until you can teach it to someone else.
These teaching opportunities have significantly increased my confidence in the classroom. I’ve grown more comfortable managing groups, delivering content, and adapting to different learning styles. I've come to see that communication isn’t just about speaking—it’s about connecting, especially in an educational setting. These experiences have reinforced my passion for teaching and have strengthened skills that I know will continue to benefit me in future academic and professional roles.
