 Week 6:

Today’s presentation highlighted the importance of soil health and climate action in shaping the future of agriculture. I’m inspired by the idea that we can feed a growing population while restoring natural resources. Practices like cover cropping and reduced tillage stood out as small changes with big impact.

Through my internship, I’ve also been lucky to work with the Master Gardener program and help with community outreach and garden programs. My work with the program feels like a great tie into our theme this past week’s theme.

This week was my county’s pre-fair week, so much of my time was spent helping set up the fairgrounds. It was a lot of hard work, but also a great chance to bond with my co-workers and feel part of something bigger. I also spent a few days at George’s Creek, helping with the Farmers Market and a 4-H pop-up event. At the market, I ran a table where kids made origami bracelets to enter in the fair—it was a fun and creative way to get them involved. The 4-H pop-up featured students from the George’s Creek Elementary 4-H Club showing off what they’ve been working on, which was great to see. I helped manage fair entries and signed up new 4-H members (with support from my boyfriend, who volunteered). It was rewarding to help connect families to 4-H and encourage kids to participate in the fair. The events really showcased how community, creativity, and agriculture all intersect.
