 Week 9:

During this internship, I learned and discovered many new things about myself, my interests, and the kind of work that motivates me. One of the most important realizations I had was that I might not want to pursue a career as a general elementary school teacher after all. While I’ve always known I wanted to work with youth in some way, this experience opened my eyes to the broader world of education beyond the traditional classroom.

Through my involvement with various programs, activities, and community events, I began to see how impactful and dynamic Extension work can be. I enjoyed the hands-on learning opportunities, the connection with the community, and the chance to support youth in a more flexible, engaging environment. It made me consider the possibility that Extension education may be a better fit for my skills and interests.

Right now, I’m taking time to explore different programs and career paths to figure out what direction I want to go in. I'm touring programs, talking with professionals, and reflecting on the parts of this internship that excited me the most. What this experience made clear, however, is that I do want to teach in some capacity. I find real joy and purpose in helping others learn and grow, and this internship helped reinforce that teaching—whether in a traditional classroom or through community-based programs—is something I want to pursue. I am so sad that the internship is coming to an end.

This week I helped with a Nourishing Neighbors Program which is where people can come and for free pick up fresh vegetables and there are also other services at pick up sites.

I also tabled at the Frostburg Farmers Market for Master Gardeners

While in Frostburg my mentor and I filled up the seed library at the Frostburg Library.
